Rolex Day-Date

ABOUT COLLECTION

The Rolex Day-Date is a classic collection from the Swiss watchmaker. Launched in 1956, it was the world's first wristwatch to display the day of the week spelled out in full. The day appears in an arched window at 12 o'clock and the date in a window at 3 o'clock under the Cyclops lens. The case is an Oyster, the bracelet the signature President. For a date without the day, see the Rolex Datejust.

The key choices are case material and size. The Day-Date is made only in precious metals: 18 ct yellow, white and rose gold — the rose gold being Rolex's own Everose — and 950 platinum. There is no steel or two-tone version. Case sizes are 36, 40 and 41 mm. The 41 mm case belongs to the Day-Date II, the previous generation, which was replaced by the Day-Date 40 in 2015.

Dials include white, blue, green and olive, chocolate, black, pink, champagne and ice blue. There are also stone and meteorite dials: turquoise, whose veining is unique to each piece, and Gibeon meteorite with its Widmanstätten pattern. Finishes include sunray, ombré, guilloché waves and a diagonal laser-engraved motif. Hour markers are Roman, Arabic or Eastern Arabic numerals.

The selection covers men's, ladies' and unisex watches made between 2009 and 2026, in condition from new to good. Each listing gives the reference, calibre, power reserve, case size, condition and what is included.
