IWC Da Vinci

ABOUT COLLECTION

Da Vinci is the line of classic watches from IWC, the Swiss manufacture from Schaffhausen. The first Da Vinci came out in 1969 in a hexagonal case with the Beta 21 quartz calibre. In 1985 Kurt Klaus created a chronograph with perpetual calendar for the line, in a round case with articulated lugs, and in 1986 a version followed in a case of black zirconium oxide ceramic — the first wristwatch made of this material.

The line has three recognisable case shapes. IWC revisited the original hexagon in the Vintage Collection model with in-house calibre 80111 and Pellaton winding. In 2007 the Da Vinci received a tonneau case, used for a chronograph on calibre 89360 — IWC's first in-house chronograph — with a flyback function. In 2017 the Da Vinci collection returned to a round case with a stepped bezel. The 40 mm Da Vinci Automatic and 36 mm ladies' models appeared at the same time, with the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph and Da Vinci Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph at the top of the collection.
