IWC Aquatimer

ABOUT COLLECTION

Aquatimer is the diving watch line from IWC Schaffhausen, the Swiss manufacture from Schaffhausen. The first Aquatimer was introduced in 1967. It is a tool watch, and what matters most is a dive-time scale that cannot be moved by accident and a dial that is legible in the dark.

The generations of the Aquatimer are easiest to tell apart by their bezels, and three solutions are represented. On the Aquatimer GST 2000 Steel Automatic from the late 1990s, the external bezel has to be pressed before it can be turned. This is the steel version of the GST line (Gold, Steel, Titanium), which has its own collection page. On the Aquatimer Automatic (IW3548-07) and the Aquatimer Chronograph Cousteau Divers Limited Edition, the dive scale moves to an internal ring under the crystal; on the Automatic, this ring is turned by a separate crown at 2 o'clock. The Aquatimer Chronograph 44mm and the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition "Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau" have the SafeDive system: the wearer turns the outer ring, and the inner scale rotates.

The models include mechanical chronographs and three-hand watches, all in steel cases with sapphire crystal. Dials are black, blue and silver.
