A. Lange & Sohne Odysseus

Odysseus is the sports collection of A. Lange & Söhne, the Saxon manufacture in Glashütte. Introduced in 2019, it was the brand's first series-production model in a steel case with an integrated bracelet: an everyday watch in which the manufacture kept the same hand finishing of the movement as in its classic pieces.

The dial is laid out symmetrically: the outsize date on the right, a day-of-the-week display of the same size on the left and small seconds below. Date and day can be read at a glance.

The watches are powered by the manufacture calibre L155.1 Datomatic, a self-winding movement developed for the sports line. The balance beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the central rotor has a platinum oscillating mass, the balance cock is hand-engraved, and the power reserve is 50 hours. There is a sapphire crystal at the front, and the movement is visible through a transparent caseback.

Choosing within the series is straightforward. The models covered here have 40.5 mm cases and are men's watches, so the decision comes down to metal and strap: stainless steel on an integrated steel bracelet, or 18-carat white gold on black rubber.
