Louis Moinet Derrick

ABOUT COLLECTION

Louis Moinet Derrick watches are recognisable by their dial: a miniature oil derrick with a pumpjack, whose parts move in time with the movement. It is a mechanical automaton – a module integrated into the calibre rather than applied decoration. The collection is made by Louis Moinet, a Swiss brand named after the watchmaker Louis Moinet.

The Derrick collection includes versions with different calibres and metals. The Oil Derrick Limited Edition Blue is also described as the Derrick Tourbillon: white gold, a bezel secured by six screws, a blue guilloché dial and the in-house LM14 tourbillon calibre beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour. The Oil Derrick Limited Edition 3 Pieces is the Derrick Gaz in steel, with a green skeletonised guilloché dial and the LM64 calibre. The Mecanograph Derrick Piece Unique is a one-off with a case in 18-carat rose gold; its black dial reveals the balance and gear train on the left, and it is powered by the LM31 calibre.

Within the line, the choice comes down to mechanics and metal. For a tourbillon there is the Derrick Tourbillon; for automatic winding, the steel Derrick Gaz or the gold Mecanograph. Diameters are similar across the versions; the difference lies in the weight on the wrist. Other Louis Moinet lines include Metropolis, Twintech and Vertuis.
