DiW Cosmograph Daytona is a line from the watch atelier Designa Individual Watches. It is a reworking of the Swiss Rolex Cosmograph Daytona chronograph: the atelier makes the case from carbon, and each version has its own bezel. The movement remains Rolex: calibre 4130, with automatic winding, vertical chronograph clutch and Parachrom hairspring, and a 72-hour power reserve. Rolex developed this calibre in 2000.
The watches have a 40 mm case, sapphire crystal and a tachymeter scale on the bezel. Versions differ in carbon and dial. The Daytona Carbon Fiber Oscellaris is made of layered NTPT carbon, with an orange ceramic bezel and a grey dial, and was issued as a limited edition of 10 pieces. The Daytona Carbon Paul Newman has a black-and-white Paul Newman-style dial with square markers on the sub-dials. The Daytona Exceptional-1 is made of forged carbon over an inner titanium capsule that holds the geometry of the case. The Daytona Carbon Irbis has a carbon case and bezel, with a black dial and contrasting beige-white sub-dials.
Versions within the line are easiest to compare on three points. First, the carbon texture: NTPT gives a matt, layered texture, while forged carbon has a random fibre pattern that is different on every case. Second, the accent colour: a bright bezel or a restrained black and white. Third, the year of production and condition of the individual piece. Similar carbon reworkings are in the separate DiW Carbon Daytona and DiW Daytona Carbon sections.
