The Rolex Explorer 40 (ref. 224270) is a men's sports watch with a 40 mm round case in stainless steel. It has a black dial under sapphire crystal.
It is powered by the self-winding mechanical calibre 3230. Features: Central seconds, luminescent markers, luminescent hands, screw-down crown, easylink extension link. Water-resistant to 100 m. The watch is fitted with an Oyster bracelet with an Oysterlock in steel.
This example is brand new, and comes with the original box and papers.
Caliber 3230 was developed by Rolex and has the patented Chronergy escapement in nickel-phosphorus for high energy efficiency and resistance to magnetic fields. The blue Parachrom hairspring keeps the rate stable through temperature changes and shocks.

Rolex was founded in London in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis, registered the Rolex name in 1908 and moved to Geneva after the First World War. The company built its reputation on robust, precise everyday watches: the waterproof Oyster case of 1926, the Perpetual self-winding rotor of 1931 and the Datejust of 1945, the first self-winding wristwatch to show the date in a dial window.
