MP-05 LaFerrari is a watch that Hublot, the Swiss brand from Nyon, presented at Baselworld 2013 alongside the Ferrari LaFerrari hypercar. The series belongs to Hublot MP — Masterpiece, where movement and case are designed from scratch rather than developed from a production model, and where cases in 3D carbon, titanium and coloured sapphire appear. The watch was developed with Ferrari engineers and follows the logic of a hypercar: there is no conventional dial, the mechanics are exposed, and the complex sapphire crystal echoes the silhouette of the supercar. The defining figure of the series is a power reserve of 1,200 hours, or 50 days. Besides black titanium, the series had a version in a polished sapphire case, made in 20 pieces.
At its core is the in-house hand-wound calibre HUB9005, made of 637 parts. Eleven mainspring barrels connected in series are lined up along the central axis: no wristwatch movement had offered such a reserve before. Underneath, set outside the plane of the movement, is a vertical tourbillon. The time and remaining power reserve are shown by rotating cylinders instead of hands — an unusual display and a deliberate choice: here the movement itself has become the face of the watch.
When choosing, look at the condition, accessories and reference of the particular piece. One example is the MP Collection MP-05 LaFerrari All Black Limited Edition 50, reference 905.ND.0000.RX, a limited edition in black titanium. The brand's more everyday series include Big Bang, Classic Fusion, Spirit of Big Bang and King Power.
