Hermes Kelly

ABOUT COLLECTION

Kelly is a Hermès line in which watches and bags share one emblem: the padlock. Its story begins in the 1930s, when Robert Dumas designed the cadenas lock for the Sac à dépêches bag, which was later renamed after Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco. Hermès carried the silhouette of the lock over into a watch case, which is why Kelly watches and bags from the line sit side by side.

Kelly watches are ladies' watches, recognised by their padlock-shaped case on a movable attachment. The core model is the Kelly Watch Mini Model, 16 mm: a 16 mm case in polished stainless steel. The dial is covered by sapphire crystal, and the steel bracelet is made of geometric links. The silver dial has four applied markers and two central hands showing hours and minutes.

Within the mini model, the choice comes down to finish: the case is steel on all versions, and the most understated has no stones. On the Kelly Watch Mini Model with Diamonds, 16 mm, the sides of the steel case are factory-set with diamonds. On the Kelly Watch Mini Model with Diamonds and MOP, 16 mm, diamonds decorate the bezel and the attachment plate, and the dial is white mother-of-pearl.

Bags from the line include the Hermès Epsom Kelly Sellier 25 Vert Amande, the Picnic Kelly Mini 20 in Swift leather and the Kelly Elan Gold Veau Madame with gold-plated hardware. The Kelly Elan is saddle-stitched in calfskin, with gold-plated hardware and a flap with a Touret closure. Birkin bags have their own collection, Hermès Birkin.

Case material and size, movement type, water resistance and bracelet are the easiest points of comparison between versions.
